ATVs may be built to handle dirt and muck, but leaving your quad uncleaned for too long can encourage corrosion or lead to dirt getting into the engine. The occasional cleaning will help your ATV to look better and run better in the long run. This guide from Seminole Powersports North will tell you how to get your ATV clean the right way.

Find a Location and Remove the Muck

The dirt and mud that your ATV picks up on the trail will often be intermixed with wild seeds. If you’re not careful, your lawn might start sprouting foreign grasses and weeds. Always clean your ATV on a concrete surface and watch your runoff. Use a plastic scrap or garden hose to remove the initial layer of mud so that you’ll have an easier time cleaning the ATV.

Should You Use A Pressure Washer?

While a pressure washer will clean off your ATV at a much faster rate than other methods, most manufacturers don’t recommend using one since there’s a danger that you’ll damage your vehicle. If you still want to use a pressure washer, be very careful around more delicate components like electrical systems, bearings, and the fuel system. Limit the amount of pressure you use, and don’t use tips that’ll damage your ATV.

Add Soap & Scrub

Scrub down your ATV. We recommend using bike soap or automotive detergent and a scrub glove or sponge for this step. Pay particular attention to getting the plastic components, seat, frame, and wheels clean. A stiff brush will make cleaning the hard to reach areas a bit easier, while a degreaser will help you sort out any oily spots.

Dry and Polish

If the forecast calls for clear weather, you can allow your ATV to air dry. In situations in which you’d rather get your ATV dried sooner rather than later, feel free to use a lint free towel. An air compressor can be used if you’re worried about getting the harder to reach areas fully dried. Once that’s done, spray your quad with plastic polish and wipe it down. Just make sure that none of the polish falls on the seat, as the polish can make things slippery.
